15 minutes of Spain: Summer Sangria

I visited Spain in April. One of the highlights was a chance to reconnect with my old friend Rafael. We met up in Madrid. Our families became very close when we all moved to Cincinnati at about the same time. They were expats from France here for GE Aircraft.

I reminded Rafael that he had shared his Sangria recipe with me and how my friends couldn't believe that he added orange Fanta to his mix. He confirmed- he still does!

Try this version of Rafael’s recipe for a sweet and easy summer Sangria. Salud!

Sangria

1 750 ml bottle dry red wine

1 tablespoon sugar

Juice of 1 large orange

Juice of 1 large lemon

1 large orange, sliced thin crosswise

1 large lemon, sliced thin crosswise

1 cup strawberries, sliced

1 medium peach, peeled, pitted and cut into chunks

1 cup (8 fluid ounces) club soda or orange soda

Combine all the ingredients except for the club soda or orange soda in a large serving pitcher, mixing well. Refrigerate overnight. Immediately before serving, mix in the club soda or orange soda for added fizz. Pour into cups with ice cubes. Add some of the soaked fruit to each cup.
